Just 12 goals were kicked for the match as the Dragons prevailed 6.12 (48) to 6.4 (40) at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.
On a day where scoring was difficult, the Dragons’ 3.5 to 0.0 opening term that forced the Pioneers to play catch-up ultimately proved decisive in the final result.
“It took us a little while to get into the game and they adapted to their windy home conditions a lot better than we did,” Pioneers coach Rick Coburn said.
“We fought back after half-time and our third quarter in particular was really positive. The boys put really good pressure on the ball-carrier and were able to create a lot of turnovers against the breeze.”
The Pioneers – who are now 2-11 – were within nine points at three quarter-time with the breeze at their backs to come in the last term, but it was a goal-less final quarter from both sides as Bendigo kicked 0.2 to the Dragons’ 0.1
