By-election blues
Five by-elections this weekend, two of which our fearless leader has thrown up the white flag – no use using your own money for someone else's benefit, but two seats, Longman and Mayo hold interest for totally different reasons.

In Longman the LNP candidate is either as thick as a brick, or, he allegedly attempted to boost his election credentials by claiming something that just was not true.
But our PR consultant Prime Minister was having none of that, he said big Trev had simply made a mistake.
These are only by-elections, but the results will have a big bearing on the future direction of this Government

So on my count we have two candidates, both of whom made mistakes, angling for the same seat.
Yep, sounds like Queensland.
In the leafy Adelaide hills the Downer dynasty has ruled for ever it seems, but since Alexander ditched his silk stockings, and left us for the cucumber sandwiches of Westminster, his replacement was found wanting in the festivities department, and was sent packing in a wheel chair.
His replacement Rebeca Sharkey, now an Independent, is being challenged by another Downer, daughter Georgina, who has not been back to the joint for 20 years.

Hello, I'm Home, which has not pleased all of the people of Mayo for two reasons – one she is a member of the IPA, the other she wishes to abolish the minimum wage.
With this common knowledge, you can only assume that Turnbull, Howard, and all of the other toffy like supporters with their noses in the air, have had no qualms supporting her in public, suggesting that the ordinary people of Australia will have to continue to be alert to this continual privileged attitude.
These are only by-elections, but the results will have a big bearing on the future direction of this Government, who is bursting at the seams to inflict more pain on those who simply cannot do anything about it.
Interesting times ahead indeed.

Mall upgrade
I think it’s a great idea for a bike path (What next for the Bendigo mall? Our readers have their say, Bendigo Advertiser, July 21) more stuff for kids, and get rid of teenagers who cause trouble. Make it more inviting and get more retail shops open.

Roofing panels
Manufacturers should try to produce standard roofing panels, that are big enough to cover single, or double garage and act also as a solar panel. They could be put together to form the roof of the house.
New houses would be designed so that the standard solar-roofing panels can be used. It seems a difficult task to accomplish at present, but I believe it is going to happen in the near future.
