The Alliance is group of organisations with a shared concern about the impacts of gambling and its normalisation in Australian culture.
It is campaigning for reforms of the gambling industry that reduce the harm it causes.
Reforms include $1 maximum bets, a clamp down on losses disguised as wins, reduction of venue operating hours and ensuring venues and staff have a greater responsibility to protect customers from harm.
With the state election four months away, Alliance director Tim Costello welcomed the commitment of Victoria’s local government leaders to addressing Australia’s gambling issues.
“Australians suffer the greatest per capita gambling losses of any people on earth and we are not going to tolerate national annual gambling losses of $25 billion a year anymore, including $13 billion lost on poker machines,” he said.
The City of Greater Bendigo is not one of councils signed up to The Alliance for Gambling Reform.
