All lanes of the Calder Freeway are now open, following a crash near Taradale on Sunday evening.
Two people were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries on Sunday, after a crash involving two trucks and a car at 6:30pm.
The driver of one truck has a broken arm, while the driver of the car sustained leg injuries. Both were transported to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The Calder Freeway was closed southbound until 3am on Monday.
Police will continue investigations into the cause of the crash today.
UPDATE 10.45pm: The Calder remains closed southbound near Taradale.
VicRoads has advised the Melbourne-bound lanes of the Calder are closed near the Pyrenees Highway. An alternate route is the Malmsbury-Elphinstone Rd (C794) through Taradale. Delays continue to be experienced in this area.
UPDATE 9pm: Police and emergency services are attending a collision on the Calder Freeway near Taradale.
Police understand a B-Double truck carrying a large number of cattle and a hazardous materials truck collided about 6.30pm.
A passenger vehicle has then collided with the trucks.
The male driver of the hazardous materials trucks has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The female driver of the vehicle has been taken to hospital with serious injuries
The male driver of the B-Double, did not sustain any injuries and is assisting police with inquiries.
The Calder Freeway is closed southbound between Elphinstone and Malmsbury.
The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are being investigated and anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
EARLIER: The Calder Freeway is closed to southbound traffic near Elphinstone, after a crash involving a cattle truck.
Traffic is being redirected as emergency services attend the scene.
A VicRoads spokesman said two trucks and a car were involved, with one truck carrying 70 head of cattle. The cattle remain on the truck.
The second truck is a tanker.
It may take some time for the scene to be clear.
