Australian Sheep and Wool Show president Ross McGauchie wants to see the three-day event continue to grow.
Mr McGauchie said the national event has tripled in size since it moved to Bendigo 18 years ago.
“Since it came to Bendigo, I’ve been helping organise it. It has just kept growing,” he said.
“As it has developed, we have got a better understand of what people want to see. We've added things like the Women of Wool, the Festival of Lamb, and the sheep dog trials.
“More and more we want to see this show growing. We’re very happy with how this year has gone and that Bendigo has accepted this show as one of the main attractions that's on through the year.”
Mr McGauchie said this year’s crowds had been fantastic.
“There’s always a hiccup here and there but overall it was fantastic. My understanding is the crowds have been up a little bit up on last year but I haven't seen official numbers yet,” he said.
“The number of people coming through have been great and breeders are happy with how it's gone. As I understand all the traders have also done very well.
“People coming aren’t necessarily sheep people. A lot people don’t realise the amazing things we've got to see and look at. Getting that message through Bendigo is important to us.”
Some of the most popular attractions were the shearing and yard dog competitions.
“People like the shearing and yard dogs. It doesn't matter if you’ve never seen it before or you're a farmer that does it every day, if there's something like that on, you'll watch it,” Mr McGauchie said.
“You can't walk past a shearer or a yard dog without stopping to watch.”
