Police say the children were walking along Stanbridge and Duke streets just after 3:30pm, when the man stopped his car and spoke to them.
The man offered the children a lift, but the children kept walking.
He then drove off in an unknown direction. He was last seen driving an orange Ford sedan, described as an “older model”.
Police patrolled the area, but were unable to find the man described.
Investigators have contacted a local school and will continue to patrol the area.
Police have asked anyone with information to come forward. They would particularly like any CCTV or dash-cam footage taken in the area.
