Hail hit near Harcourt at about 6:45pm on Thursday night.
Castlemaine Police reported at least five vehicles skidding off the road due to an inch-deep layer of hail on the road.
No one was injured, but there was minor damage to a few of the cars.
A cold air mass around the state probably caused Thursday’s hail according to Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Rod Dickson.
More hail could fall on Friday, most likely with showers and a thunderstorm, Mr Dickson said.
The heavy wind around Bendigo died down overnight, but are likely to pick up in the early morning.
The severe weather warning in place for damaging winds over much of the state has finished.
Gusts in the range of 90-100 kilometres per hour were recorded across the state.
Peak gusts included 91 kilometres per hour at Mount William, 100 at Mount Buller and 95 Wilsons Promontory.
The weekend is forecast to be cloudy in Bendigo, but with a low chance of rain.
Saturday is forecast to hit 13 degrees, Sunday 15.
