An understrength BSSC line-up was outclassed by the reigning champions, 17.14 (116) to 3.2 (20) at Craigieburn.
St Bernard’s kicked with the aid of a strong wind in the first quarter and took control from the first bounce.
St Bernard’s slammed home 5.8 (38) to no score in the opening stanza to put BSSC on the back foot.
BSSC finally hit the scoreboard in the second term, but St Bernard’s made the most of their forays forward against the wind and kicked 4.0 to 2.1.
The 49-point half-time margin ballooned to 84 points by three quarter-time as BSSC was again held scoreless against the breeze.
BSSC battled hard in the final quarter and did well to keep the margin below the 100-point mark.
Defender Charlie Mathieson was named BSSC’s best player, while Alex Jenkyn, Lucas Cacciavello and Nathan McHugh played well across the four quarters.
Mitch Goodwin, Braydon Vaz and Phil Moi Moi were the goalkickers for BSSC.
St Bernard’s advance to the grand final against St Patrick’s Ballarat at the MCG on August 18.
St Patrick’s scored an equally convincing win in the first semi-final against Aquinas College.
St Patrick’s won six-straight Herald-Sun Shield titles from 2010-2015.
