Conforti, who was captain of the side, was awarded the Bartram Medal as Victoria Country's premier player.

Victoria Country lost its three matches to South Australia, Western Australia and Vic Metro, with Conforti the standout performer despite playing in an unfamiliar role.

After starting the carnival against Vic Metro in his regular midfield role, Conforti played across half-back against SA and WA.

"It was a different role, but it was a great opportunity and it turned out alright,'' Conforti said.

"I didn't get a lot of possessions, it was more about the pressure, tackling and things like that.

"It was disappointing that we didn't go so well as a team, but it was a great experience and it's something I'll take a lot out of."

Conforti kicked two goals in the opening round loss to Vic Metro and was then judged best for Vic Country in the seven-goal loss to South Australia in round two.

He capped the carnival by being named second best in Vic Country's nine-goal loss to WA at the Gabba.

For now, Conforti will return to club footy with Sandhurst in the BJFL under-16 seniors competition.

Next year he hopes to make the step to the next level.

"The goal for next year is to be back with the Pioneers and playing TAC Cup footy,'' Conforti said.

"I've really enjoyed training with the Pioneers squad this year. It's helped my development."

Conforti's talents aren't restricted to footy. He is a promising opening bowler in Strathdale-Maristians' junior ranks.

While pre-season football commitments continue to encroach on cricket season, Conforti has no plans to quit cricket.

"You have to have a balance, so I'm keen to play some cricket again,'' Conforti said.

"I love cricket and I like playing cricket with my mates."
