St Bernard’s College stands in the way of Bendigo Senior Secondary College and a grand final berth on the MCG.
BSSC and St Bernard’s meet in the semi-finals of the Herald-Sun Shield at Craigieburn on Wednesday afternoon.
The winner advances to the grand final at the MCG on Saturday, August 18 where the game will be the curtain-raiser to the Collingwood versus Port Adelaide AFL clash.
BSSC advanced to the Herald-Sun Shield semis after winning the School Sport Victoria title against Bendigo rival Catherine McAuley College last month.
BSSC coach Rick Coburn has named the same squad of 25 that played against CMC at the QEO.
“St Bernard’s has a few players from the Vic Metro (national championship) squad, so it’s going to be a good challenge for us,’’ Coburn said.
“We’re going to go down there with a strong side and we’re keen to test ourselves.”
St Bernard’s is the reigning Herald-Sun Shield champion.
BSSC has won the prestigious title once in 2002 when it was coached by Damian Drum.
CMC has also won the Herald-Sun Shield premiership once.
Then known as Catholic College Bendigo, the school team defeated Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School in the 1992 grand final.
The PEGS team included Scott West and Dustin Fletcher, while CCB’s squad was led by Leigh Colbert and Rowan Warfe.
