Tim Tszyu, who is undefeated in nine pro bouts and has made no secret of his desire to become Australia’s light-middleweight champion, will main event the third instalment of ‘Battle on the Goldfields’ on Saturday, September 8.
The show will again be promoted by Bendigo’s former Olympian Lynden Hosking and his Hosking Promotions group.
A huge night of boxing will also feature a 10-round world super-flyweight title eliminator involving Australia’s world-ranked number three Andrew ‘The Monster’ Moloney, and a trio of Bendigo fighters in Damien Lock, Scott Tuddenham and Lorrinda Webb.
Battle on the Goldfields 3 will be Hosking Promotions’ first Bendigo show since the second instalment in June 2016.
Hosking, who represented Australia at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 before winning bronze at the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games in 1998, said he was excited to be bringing professional boxing back to his hometown.
“This is a major event on the boxing landscape and I am super proud to be able to bring it to Bendigo,” he said.
“It really should be taking place in a major city, but with the help and support of the City of Greater Bendigo and Ultra Tune, we have been able to pull it off and have it at the wonderful new stadium.
“We can’t wait to see a full house there watching world class boxing at its finest and showcasing our great city.
“Hopefully it will be just the beginning of bringing these types of events to Bendigo.”
Tszyu, who will fight Indonesia’s Stevie Ongen Ferdinandus for the WBC Asian Boxing Council continental super welterweight title early next month, said he was excited with the opportunity to showcase his skills in front of a huge Bendigo crowd just one month later.
“This will be my first fight in Victoria and I am looking forward to showing the people of Bendigo what I can do on my way to a future world title opportunity,” he said.
“I thank Lynden Hosking, from Hosking Promotions, for giving me this opportunity as well as the City of Greater Bendigo for getting behind this huge event.”
Moloney, who has an imposing 17-0 record, will battle former world champion Luis Concepcion, in a world title eliminator.
Hosking said it would be a big night for the Bendigo trio of Lock, Tuddenham and especially Webb, who becomes the first female professional boxer to come out of Bendigo.

Lock, whose record at the first two ‘Battle on the Goldfields event reads one win-one loss, will fight Joshua Butler over six rounds, while Tuddenham will battle Daniel White, from Queensland, over four rounds.
The bout will be Tuddenham’s first since last December and third in the pro-ranks.
Battle in the Goldfields 3 will be Hosking’s 10th professional promotion, following a series of seven successful ‘Punches in the Park’ shows in Melbourne.
