The Braves men dropped to 10-8 after a disappointing 18 point loss to Geelong Supercats on Saturday night in Geelong.
It was coach Ben Harvey’s team’s second loss to Geelong in the last fortnight. The Supercats travelled to Bendigo on June 29 and won 88-75.
The Braves were always on the back foot after trailing by six points at quarter time.
They were able to reduce the margin by one point at half time, but slipped further behind when they were outscored 23-18 in the third.
Geelong was able to enhance its position with a 21-13 last term to notch their 12th victory of the season, putting them two games ahead of the Braves in the race for the finals.
As they did in their previous meeting, imports DeMarcus Gatlin (21 points, six rebounds) and John Davis (25 points, 10 rebounds) inflicted most damage on the Braves for the Supercats.
Jeremy Kendle led the Braves with 25 points and eight assists, while fellow import Ray Turner had 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Thrust into a starting role in the absence of centre Matt Andronicos, veteran Chris Hogan finished with 12 points and four rebounds.
EARLIER: An explosive third quarter has propelled the Bendigo Braves women to an eight point SEABL win against Geelong Supercats.
The Braves, led by a stellar all-round performance from star point guard Kelly Wilson, kept their amazing winning streak intact with a 91-83 victory in Geelong on Saturday.
Wilson contributed a team-high 19 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds, as the Braves posted their 18th straight win, to remain undefeated with two regular season games to play.
As they were a fortnight ago at Bendigo Stadium, the Braves were seriously challenged by the plucky Supercats, whose recent scalps have included a win over previously second-placed Kilsyth Cobras.
Geelong led by four points at both quarter time and half time, before the Braves unleashed a withering 30-10 third quarter blitz to give them an 16 point lead at the final break.
The Supercats were able to peg the margin back to eight points in a final quarter shootout, in which they outscored the Braves 29-21.
Geelong got great productivity from import Daniela Wallen (29 points, eight rebounds, seven steals) and skipper Alex Duck (22 rebounds, eight rebounds, seven assists).
But it was a more well-rounded contribution for the Braves, which ensured their victory.
Four starters ended on double figures in points, with Nadeen Payne producing 18 to go along with 13 rebounds, Ash Karaitiana scoring 15 and Kara Tessari adding 13.
The Braves got 17 points from its bench, with seven coming from Gabe Richards, who also had 12 rebounds.
A home clash against Frankston Blues awaits the Braves next Friday, before a trip to Nunawading Spectres on Saturday night.
