Entries are now open for all musicians aged between 12 and 25.
The competition is open to bands, soloists and duos in any style of music including acoustic acts, hip hop and electronic, performing originals or covers.
Uma Dingemans, 15, from six-piece ska-pop band Stop That Mammoth said the Battle of the Bands was great experience.
Finishing third in last year’s local heat helped provide a platform to launch the all-girl band.
“We formed the band about a year ago just before the Battle of the Bands. We had played in a cover band at school together and the chance to play a gig at the Theatre Royal was a real drawcard for us,” said Uma.
“It opened up the opportunity to play our unique music in a safe space. It also reinforced in our minds that there was a real audience out there for our original music.
“(Since then) we have played a lot of gigs and have started recording. We’re hoping to break out and have an album out soon.”
The local FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands is on August 24 at the Theatre Royal. Applications close August 1. Email youth@mountalexander.vic.gov.au for more details.
