FRIDAY, JULY 13: The Major Collision Investigation Unit will now close the road on Wednesday, July 18.
The change of day has been made for operational reasons.
Members of the police unit will be running tests on the stretch between Pearces and Storys roads, in Mandurang, on Wednesday from 10am – 12pm.
All traffic will be diverted away from the area.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 11: THE section of Sedgwick Road where cyclist Jason Lowndes lost his life will be closed for two hours next week, at the request of the Major Collision Investigation Unit.
Members of the police unit will be running tests on the stretch between Pearces and Storys roads, in Mandurang, on Tuesday from 10am – 12pm.
All traffic will be diverted away from the area.
Police have confirmed the tests are in relation to the 23-year-old cyclist’s death on December 22.
Emergency services were called to Sedgwick Road, near Pearces Road, at 10.15am that day in relation to a collision involving a cyclist and a vehicle.
Lowndes was flown to The Royal Melbourne Hospital after the crash, but died several hours later.
Billie Rodda, 20, has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, careless driving and using a mobile phone while driving.
She appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning.
Lowndes was an elite cyclist who rode professionally around the world against the best in his sport.
He was remembered by his teammates in the Israel Cycling Academy for his ‘constant broad smile, ever cheerful personality, and warm heart’.
Friends and family loved his positivity and readiness to see the best in people.
“Having the pleasure of knowing someone like that made your life better,” fellow cyclist Robbie Hucker told the Bendigo Advertiser in December.
“He didn't go out of his way to make your day better... it was just his natural personality to care about others."
