The Hawks, who already field under-18 and under-15 teams in the Bendigo Junior Football League, are committed to joining the Central Victoria Football League Women's competition.
The move has won the immediate backing of AFL Central Victoria.
Eaglehawk started advertising for a senior coach last week and, according to club president Peter Ritchie, has already received four applicants.
Priorities for the new coach will include recruitment, fitness, skills development, and teaching team structures and strategies.
Ritchie said with the Hawks having two existing junior teams, fielding a senior team was a logical next step.
He was confident the club would find the necessary player numbers for a smooth transition into the competition.
“We haven’t really sourced players as yet, but we have a couple of Eaglehawk girls playing with the (Bendigo) Thunder, hopefully we could get them back,” he said.
“There will also be a few girls who come out of the under-18s next year and a couple of other girls around the club who have pricked their ears up.
“More senior teams coming on board is something that is going to happen and there’s plenty of interest, so we’ve put it out there that we are looking for coaches.
“I’m sure it won’t be long before we sit down with a few applicants and have some interviews.”
The CVFL women’s competition currently has five clubs, including Bendigo Thunder, Kangaroo Flat, Kyneton, North Bendigo and Strathfieldsaye.
The Hawks under-15 girls team sits fourth after 10 rounds and is on track to play finals with a 5-4 record.
Applications for the senior women’s coaching job close on July 22.
