The Roos announced last week they are advertising all coaching positions ahead of 2019.
Kangaroo Flat’s senior side in the BFNL has been co-coached by Filo and Corey Greer since last year.
In announcing the decision the Roos said Greer had indicated he was keen to play on at Dower Park next year, while Filo says he is weighing up his options for 2019, one of which is to re-apply for the coaching position.

“We knew the club was going to advertise the position, which I haven’t got a problem with… I’ve been through this before,” Filo said on Thursday.
“The club is expecting myself and Corey to put in for the position again, but they also want to have a look at what else is out there.
“Corey is getting married at the end of the year and probably isn’t in a position where he wanted to go on given the commitment it takes, but he still wants to stay involved at the club.
“I’m in the position where I’ll decide whether or not I want to put in for it again. The job has got pretty big now… if I can find someone else to do it with then I might apply again, but I still have to work out what I want to do. Like anything there’s options to choose from.”
Kangaroo Flat has struggled for coaching stability since Derrick Filo left the Roos at the end of 2002.
Since then the Roos have had 10 coaches – Phil Carman (2003), Chris Harrington (2004), Damien Brown (2005-06), John Rombotis (2007), Darryl Wilson (2008-09), Murray Collins (2010-11), Tyrone Downie (2012-13), Jason Stevens (2014-16) and Filo and Greer (2017-18).
The Roos – who last played finals in 2009 – sit eighth on the BFNL ladder with a 2-9 record, but Filo has been buoyed by some of the club’s younger players.
“In terms of our kids, Dylan Klemm and Tom Verbeek have both come a long way, Liam Collins at just 21 is one of our captains and is having a fantastic year; Nathan McHugh has played some games with the Pioneers; Ethan Roberts is coming on well; Dylan Barber is getting a go,” Filo said.
“We’ve got good kids coming through, they just need more game time.”
