So, as a gesture of support for her mum, and all cancer sufferers, she has organised a fundraising night.
Guests will watch a film, Aurore, at Star Cinemas, after enjoying afternoon tea.
“I knew I had to do something, something to help, to give me purpose, to actually do something for the cause,” Ms Godden said.
A $15 portion of each ticket goes to cancer research.
Ms Godden’s mother, Kathy was diagnosed with cancer four months ago.
After experiencing chest and back pain, she had been worried she was developing arthritis.
It turned out to be much more serious.
After testing, doctors diagnosed Kathy with cancer of the lung and spine.
She has spent much of the past four months in and out of hospital.
The Godden family is now struggling to cope without their mother, who has been in hospital for much of the past four months.
She is now closer to home in Rochester Hospital.
Ms Godden’s brother lives an hour away, and her sister has moved home temporarily to help out.
“It’s very difficult, we don’t know how to feel, we don’t know what to expect, we all feel very burdened with the pressure of it,” Ms Godden said.
“We’re quite angry sometimes, and sad at times. We don’t really know how to cope without Mum.”
Personally, Ms Godden is also struggling to see the change in her mother.
“It’s very sad, it’s devastating. It’s really horrible to see my mum like this,” she said.
“It’s really impacted me a lot, I cry a lot, I’m very angry, there are so many emotions I could use to describe how I’m feeling.”
It was this frustration that led her to want to do her bit to help out.
She chose a movie and an afternoon tea as a way of lightening a dark time. Guests are invited to wear pink
“I just wanted to do something fun, I decided I wanted to do an afternoon tea first actually,” Ms Godden said.
“I actually went to visit the cinema and we thought it’d be a fantastic venue for both the afternoon tea and the [movie].”
The film Aurore is a subtitled French film, about 50 year old Aurore Tabort.
Tabort’s life is in crisis, she is newly unemployed, newly separated from her husband, and about to become a grandmother.
She begins to rediscover herself after bumping into an old love, Totoche.
With around 30 positive RSVPs so far, Ms Godden is well on her way to reaching her target for the event. She is hoping at least 60 people will attend.
