With the tournament preparing to head into the knockout phase, the decision by Optus comes after technology and streaming glitches – including playback and buffering errors – left fans frustrated.
Last week, Optus chose to simulcast all group stage matches on SBS.
The decision simulcast the remainder of the tournament means Optus is effectively giving up its exclusive broadcasting rights to the tournament.
"Optus is here to push the boundaries of innovation in Australia and deliver choice to customers," Optus chief executive Allen Lew said.
"We had technical issues with the Optus Sport service over the first weekend of the tournament but we are confident that these issues have now been addressed.
"All of us at Optus will use what we have learned from this experience to place ourselves ahead in the delivery of content to customers via streaming to their mobile devices."
The decision by Optus to allow SBS to show more World Cup matches was pleasing to SBS managing director Michael Ebeid.
"We're pleased to be able to simulcast more of the 2018 FIFA World Cup matches with Optus," Mr Ebeid said.
"With eight million Australians tuning in to SBS's coverage to date, we know how passionate the country is about the world game and are confident fans will continue to engage with the matches as we head towards the end of the competition in Russia."
Optus purchased the exclusive Australian broadcast rights from SBS in a deal estimated to be worth $8 million.
