The Blues won Saturday’s match at Strathfieldsaye 4-0 to maintain a one point buffer at the top of the ladder over Eaglehawk.
Jackson Clayton, Sam Farr, Max Vlaeminck and Stephen Barrett all scored goals for the Blues, who remain unbeaten this season with eight wins and two draws.
Eaglehawk coach Greg Thomas predicted his side would have a tough battle against Moama-Echuca Border Raiders at Moama on Sunday and that’s exactly what the Hawks got in a 2-1 victory.
Goals to Thomas and the Border Raiders’ Adam Richardson had the score tied at half time.
As he did last week in a 1-0 win against Colts United, Nathan Hamblin again broke the deadlock for the Hawks with a goal in the 62nd minute.
The Hawks face a crucial match against Shepparton United, which retained third spot with a 2-0 win against Golden City.
The Rams conceded one goal in each half to Ghulum Hassani (33rd minute) and Fabrice Ebe (55th minute) as United posted its seventh win of the season to be two points below Eaglehawk.
Sixth-placed Epsom produced one of its best wins of the season in an 8-1 triumph against Shepparton at Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve.
Skipper Alexander Caldow and Dylan Callaway led the way for the Scorpions, who led 4-0 at half time and continued to dominate the contest in the second half.
The pair each scored two of their goals in the opening half.
Joel Aitken scored five goals in Shepparton South’s big 6-0 win against Spring Gully United.
