The Bulldogs struggled to replicate the form that saw them dispose of Golden Square and South Bendigo in the previous two matches, but they did enough to defeat Kangaroo Flat 11.11 (77) to 7.11 (53).
The Roos produced one of their best quarters of the season to outscore Gisborne 4.5 to 1.1 in the second term.
However, they couldn’t maintain that form and Gisborne turned a four-point half-time deficit into a 22-point lead at three quarter-time.
Big man Jack Reaper was best for the Bulldogs, Ethan Minns showed plenty of class and veteran Anthony Belcher played his best game for the season.
Shaun Comerford kicked two goals in his 200th senior game.
It was a gallant effort by the Roos.
Nick Lang, Liam Collins, Jonathan Lanyon and teenager Nathan McHugh were best for Kangaroo Flat.
