Television Hero has a sound that drifts away from the band’s early work.
Frontman Jack Kennedy said the new sound wasn’t a conscious decision but something that happened naturally as the song came together.
“It’s just how it turned out in the early stages,” he said.
“The main difference from this to our stuff over the last couple of years is it’s probably a bit more guitar heavy (now).
“In the past we have probably there has probably been a bit more synth rather than guitar.
“It’s been good so far. It’s only been out for a few days but has started getting some alright reviews on online outlets and has had a few plays.”
Jack and the Kids will celebrate the launch of Television Hero with a show at Tap House in Bendigo on July 6.
The four-piece band’s latest single follows on from their 2017 single Your Eyes and their 2016 single Real Again.
Kennedy hopes the single will lead to an album down the track.
“We have been saying we will do an EP or album for last couple years but it hasn’t happened because we can’t decide between the two,” he said.
“But we are planning on something towards the end of the year.
“A lot of stuff we're hoping will be on (the album or EP) is material we have been working on for 18 months.
“There are a lot of songs written 12 months ago that we are trying to finish but we all work full time, so it’s hard to find spare time.”
Jack and the Kids were unearthed by Triple J for Groovin the Moo in 2016.
“Since then we pretty much have spent time recording new stuff and released a few songs,” Kennedy said.
“We have also done a bunch of supports .with bands like British India, Gretta Ray, Ali Barter and Alice Ivy. When we have released new material we have also had headline shows.”
Jack and the Kids’ new single television Hero is out now on iTunes. You can also stream it on Spotify.
