UPDATE Friday 10am: Investigators are visiting the scene of a house fire, which is being treated as suspicious.
A puppy was killed in the blaze in McColl Street, but no people were hurt.
UPDATE, 9.45pm: Police are treating a fire in McColl Street as suspicious at this stage.
A police spokesman said the street will be set up as a crime scene while officers continue their investigation.
EARLIER: Firefighters took 30 minutes to control a house fire in Bendigo on Thursday night.
CFA and police crews were called to the fire in McColl Street at 8.22pm to find the front room of the house fully alight.
Fire crews wore breathing apparatus to fight the blaze.
“Brigades from Bendigo and Golden Square attended and had the fire under control by 8.52pm” a CFA spokeswoman said.
“There were some concerns the fire could extended to the roof of the single-story weatherboard house.”
The CFA spokeswoman said fire investigators will determine the cause of the fire on Friday.
McColl Street was closed off while emergency services attended the fire.
