Bendigo Senior Secondary College and Catherine McAuley College both comfortably won their semi-finals on Wednesday, paving the way for them to meet for the title for the first time.
SSV has confirmed the grand final will be played in Bendigo next Wednesday, with both schools hopeful the game will be at the QEO.
BSSC booked its berth in the grand final with a 47-point win over Box Hill Secondary College at Bulleen Park.
BSSC held Box Hill to just three goals in prevailing 11.7 (73) to 3.8 (26).
“The boys played really well today,” BSSC coach Rick Coburn said.
“The previous two games against Hallam and Catherine McAuley College we didn’t play overly well, so it was good to get back on track and play some decent footy.
“We hadn’t been winning too many positions on the ground in those previous games and our field shape was a bit all over the place, but we were really well organised today and had a lot of winners all over the ground.”
Mitch Goodwin and Daine Grace each kicked three goals for BSSC, while the best players featured Braydon Vaz, James Schischka, Josh Grace, co-captain Liam Maricano, Lucas Caccaviello and Charlie Mathieson.
Meanwhile, Catherine McAuley College put Warrnambool Secondary College to the sword in their semi-final at Epsom-Huntly.
CMC thumped Warrnambool by 71 points – 16.12 (108) to 5.7 (37) – to continue its unbeaten run this year.
“The boys were excellent today,” CMC coach Lee Coghlan said.
“What was most impressive is Warrnambool challenged us early, but we stood up to it really well and they then fell away in the second half.
“But we know it’s going to be a really tough challenge next week that we’re looking forward to.
“It’s fantastic for Bendigo to have two schools playing in the final.”
CMC shared its goals between 11 players, with Cal McCarty (four) and William Wallace (three) combining for seven.
In a strong team effort, CMC’s best players featured McCarty, Connor Sexton, Daniel Clohesy, Harrison Goode, Kyle Symons and Angus Dickson.
CMC and BSSC have already met once this year, with CMC winning 7.9 (51) to 5.6 (36) a fortnight ago.
