BENDIGO’S Rhys Howell has continued his excellent form in round three of the Victorian State Circuit Race Series.
Howell ended the round in second position following a win and a pair of seconds in the weekend’s three races at Winton Motor Raceway.
The 25-year-old got off to a flyer by winning race one on Saturday in his 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo GT3.
Howell followed up with a second in Sunday’s opening race behind Ben Shoots in a Daytona coupe and was again second in the final.
His three podium finishes were enough for Howell to finish the round in second place.
It followed a breakthrough round win last month at Phillip Island, highlighted by a pair of round wins.
Despite missing the opening round at Sandown in March, Howell entered the weekend on 94 series points, 63 points behind the leader Wayne Mack in his Ferrari 458 GT3.
He is now confidently looking ahead to next month’s fourth round at Sandown
“I can honestly say I gave it my all in the last race (on Sunday) with the wet weather and slicks,” he said.
“We had great pace all weekend but couldn’t quite capitalise in the two races (on Sunday).”
Round four will be run on July 21-22, with the fifth and final round to be staged at Phillip Island on September 29-30.
