Senior Constable Andrew Loricco, from Bendigo police, said a car was seen speeding into a McDonald’s restaurant site, then driving erratically after leaving.
Shortly afterwards police intercepted a car driven by a 19-year-old on his red P-plates in Wattle Street, about 3.50am Sunday.
Senior Constable Loricco said the driver – who had a teenage passenger in the car – returned a positive preliminary breath test.
He said the driver was then taken to the police station, where he returned a reading of 0.120.
Even for a fully licensed driver, this is more than twice the legal limit – but both P1 and P2 provisional drivers must have a blood alcohol concentration of zero.
The Campbellfield man’s car was impounded for one month and his licence suspended for 12 months.
He will also be summonsed to appear in court on drink-driving and other traffic-related offences.
