Council’s park and gardens coordinator Stewart Campbell said a mixture of native and introduced species would be planted.
“We will be planting species such as oak, elm, crepe myrtle, acacia and eucalyptus to improve the presentation and livability of these areas,” Mr Campbell said.
Approximately 250 trees will be planted over the next month in Castlemaine, Taradale and Newstead.
“The trees were selected based on their growth characteristics and suitability for the shire, as well as their potential to contribute to the character of street or landscape,” Mr Campbell said.
“In established areas, we continue with the existing species or themes to ensure the character of the streetscape is maintained.
“In streets where there are opportunities for substantial planning to improve amenity and character, we consulted with local residents and property owners.”
The program is part of the council’s goal to improve streetscapes and town entrances within the shire.
