After going down to Golden Square by four goals the previous Saturday, Gisborne couldn’t afford to drop another four points to the young Bloods.
The Bulldogs took control early and didn’t let up, eventually cruising to a 63-38 victory.
At the halfway mark of the season the Bulldogs have a 4-3 record and are 6.64 per cent clear of fourth-placed Kangaroo Flat in the race for the double chance in the finals.
The Bloods remain in seventh place with one victory, but they are showing signs of improvement.
Kangaroo Flat continued its resurgence with a 40-goal hiding of Strathfieldsaye.
The Roos jumped out of the blocks strongly to lead 15-6 at quarter-time.
The Storm were more competitive in the second quarter and found their range in the goal ring, but the Roos still led 31-18 at the main break.
The Storm tried hard in the third quarter to stop the flood gates from opening.
The effort took its toll and in the final quarter the Roos ran riot, outscoring the Storm 26-6 on their way to a 77-37 win.
The 77 goals matched Sandhurst for the highest total in a game this year.
The percentage-boosting win gives the Roos plenty of confidence heading into next Saturday’s huge clash with Gisborne at Dower Park.
Strathfieldsaye faces the daunting prospect of hosting an Eaglehawk side in season-best form.
After disposing of Kangaroo Flat in emphatic style last week, the Hawks outclassed Maryborough by 32 goals on Saturday.
As a contest the game was done and dusted by quarter-time after the Hawks opened up a 16-4 lead.
The Magpies fought back to win the second quarter by one goal before the Hawks hit top gear with a 24-9 third term.
Maryborough tightened up its team defence in the final quarter as Eaglehawk ran out 70-38 victors.
It was the first time this season the free-scoring Hawks have cracked the 70-goal mark.
It was Maryborough’s heaviest defeat this season.
