RELATED – TARRANT KEEN TO JOIN BROTHER IN AFL
IT was all about the torpedo punt at Harry Trott Oval on Sunday as Bendigo hosted its round of trials in the Carlton Draught Barrel Time competition.
The competition is a search for grassroots football’s best superboot and is being judged by North Melbourne’s Robbie Tarrant.
“The kick has to be a torpedo to count. The top three from today will go down to kick at half-time during an AFL game, so it’s a good opportunity,” Tarrant said.
Tarrant, who concedes his torpedo skills “aren’t great”, has a connection with Bendigo having played TAC Cup with the Bendigo Pioneers and worked as a Bendigo Bank teller at Strath Hill before being drafted by North Melbourne with selection 15 in the 2007 National Draft.
Now 29, Tarrant has played 116 games for North Melbourne and won the club’s best and fairest in 2016.
Further competition trials are being held in Melbourne, Geelong and Gippsland.
