The 22.20 (152) to 4.3 (27) result was the Magpies’ fourth 100-point plus result in a row – the first time Castlemaine has had a run of four-straight triple-figure defeats in more than 40 years.
“It’s never easy to win like that,’’ Collins said.
“Castlemaine have some very good players. They have a couple of Port Melbourne (VFL) players, Kal Huntly is a good player and Braidon Blake played some good footy for them as well.
“They still have plenty to work with and we had to work hard for the win.”
The Dragons kicked 13 goals to one in the first half to secure the four points before the Magpies showed some fight in the third quarter.
Sandhurst regained the ascendancy in the final quarter and added 6.9 to no score.
Aside from Collins, midfielder Zeb Broadbent, defender Jake Pallpratt and Zac East impressed for the Dragons.
“We’re starting to build some momentum,’’ Collins said. “We’re starting to get a complete side back and we’re starting to get some games together as a group which is important.”
The Dragons will welcome back Daniel Connors for next week’s game with Golden Square.
Big man Dylan Atkins was again best for Castlemaine. Kal Huntly won his fair share of the ball and teenager Darby Semmens battled hard.
Castlemaine gets the chance to post its second win of the season when it hosts Maryborough next week.
