RAR Castlemaine chairperson Beverly Campbell said Professor Triggs was well known and a highly informed spokesperson for justice.
“Following RAR Castlemaine’s shortlisting for a human rights award in 2017, this appearance by Professor Triggs is further acknowledgement of the work undertaken by our dedicated community,” Ms Campbell said.
Professor Triggs will speak at the Phee Broadway Theatre on Monday June 18 from 5pm-7pm, entry is by donation and bookings are essential.
Other events throughout the week in Castlemaine include a concert, craft activities for children, a service prayer and a Devonshire tea and quiz night.
The community has also been invited to join RAR members for a vigil for those who are in detention on World Refugee Day. The vigil will be held at the Market Building in Castlemaine from 4.30pm on Wednesday June 20.
Refugee week runs nationally from Sunday June 17 until Saturday June 23 and the aim is to promote the welfare of refugees in Australia.
