The Braves are unbeaten after 10 games and coach Megan Moody and star guard Kelly Wilson were honoured with two individual awards on Tuesday.

Moody won the coach of the month for May, while Wilson was named player of the month.

The Braves won six matches in May and Moody has guided the team to the best defensive record in the competition.

Wilson averaged 16.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 10.7 assists and 2.8 steals per game in May to put herself firmly in contention for league MVP honours.

Sweet-shooting Braves forward Ash Karaitiana said Wilson made everyone else on the team a better player.

"Having a leader like Kelly Wilson makes a big difference,'' Karaitiana said.

"Add in someone with the experience of Gabe Richards and we couldn't ask for better leaders."

After having the long weekend off, the Braves women return to the court this Friday night at home against Canberra.

The Braves thumped Canberra by 26 points in round five, but Karaitiana is expecting a much tougher contest this week.

"We're not going to take any team lightly.... no matter who we play,'' Karaitiana said.

"Any team can win on any given night in this competition.

"Canberra have improved since we played them, so we need to make sure we play our game and that starts at the defensive end.

“Our offence flows from our defence. It’s all about getting those stops and running hard in transition.”

Six of the Braves’ final 10 matches are at Bendigo Stadium, leaving the team well-placed to secure a top-two berth and home court advantage for the play-offs.

Four of those 10 games are against teams currently in the top eight.

Friday night’s clash starts at 6pm.
