UNLUCKY: Jye Caldwell suffered a hamstring injury on Saturday playing for Victoria Country.

Jye Caldwell’s AFL National Under-18 Championships campaign started in frustrating style on Saturday.

The Golden Square and Bendigo Pioneers midfielder injured his hamstring early in the game against the Allies and was forced to watch on from the bench as Vic Country went down by 23 points in Sydney.

Caldwell, co-captain of the Vic Country team, kicked a goal and had six possessions before he suffered the injury.

It’s still to be determined how long the injury will sideline Caldwell.

Vic Country’s round two game is against South Australia next Sunday.
