Kyneton skipper Josh Govan is the most under-rated player in the BFNL, according to his coach Luke Beattie.

Govan was at his brilliant best again in the Tigers’ 128-point demolition of Castlemaine on Saturday.

“He went next level in his pre-season preparation and he’s flourishing in the captaincy and the leadership element that comes with that role,’’ Beattie said of Govan.

“I think he could be the most underrated player in the Bendigo league. I’d be very surprised if he wasn’t leading our best and fairest.

“He would have had over 40 touches again on Saturday and they’re always contested, effective possessions.”

The Tigers’ 29.14 (188) to 9.6 (60) win was built largely around a 12.3 to 0.0 second term.

“It was good to get back on home turf and play the footy I know we’re capable of,’’ Beattie said.

“The second quarter, in particular, reflected some of the better footy we’ve played in the past four or five weeks.”

The move of Rhys Magin to a midfield/forward role continues to pay dividends for the Tigers.

After kicking five goals against Maryborough last week, Magin backed up with eight goals against Castlemaine.

Full-forward Jake Ward matched that haul with eight, while small forward Ethan Foreman added five to take his season tally to 21.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the Magpies.

They kicked 5.1 to 4.4 in the third term to win a quarter for the fifth time this season.

Big man Braidon Blake kicked three goals to be in the Pies’ best alongside Dylan Atkins and Kal Huntly.
