Tomlinson was a member of the Rangers’ 2011-12 championship season and has also played with fellow WNBL clubs AIS, Perth and Melbourne.
“I’m really excited to be coming to Bendigo this year,” Tomlinson, 30, said on Friday.
“Bendigo was one of the first teams that spoke to me when I was a rookie coming out of the AIS and College system, so it’s great that I am now heading there to play.”
Tomlinson spent 2007-2011 in America playing with Saint Mary’s – the same College as Matthew Dellavedova – where in 2007-08 she broke the NCAA division one record for most blocks in a season with 156.
“We look forward to bringing such a huge defensive presence to the team this season,” Spirit coach Simon Pritchard said.
“Nadeen (Payne), Becca (Tobin) and Lou will patrol the key and really set the tone for our pressure defence.
“Lou has extended her shooting range over her career and we hope she can stretch defences.
“Her vibrant and positive personality will surely follow our team values and help guide us back to the finals.”
Tomlinson was a member of last season’s Melbourne Boomers team that lost the WNBL grand final series to Townsville.
She averaged 4.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game for the Boomers in 2017-18.
