Fair organisers and the Bendigo Woollen Mills hope to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for the most people crocheting simultaneously.
The record now stands at 604 people, the previous record of 485 having been beaten in the New South Wales town of Singleton last year.
A record attempt was held in Bendigo in 2015, but it fell short of the then-record by just 12 people.
Bendigo Woollen Mills will supply the wool for the 800-plus people expected to take part.
The record attempt will take place at 2pm next Sunday, June 17.
CraftAlive runs for three days, starting Friday, June 15 at 9.30am, at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds.
Entry for children under 14 is free and ticket prices start at $13 for concession.
