That figure includes 69 speeding offences, eight drivers under the influence of drugs, one person drink-driving, five people using mobile phones while driving, and 20 defective vehicles.
EARLIER: State Highway Patrol officers detected 141 speeding offences in the north of the region in four days as part of a roving operation.
State Highway Patrol officers were in the Campaspe police service area, based out of Echuca, targeting impaired driving – such as driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol – low-level speeding, and safety offences in particular.
One driver was caught 45 km/h over the limit in an 80km/h zone at Kyabram – resulting in the immediate loss of licence and a $674 fine, as well as six demerit points – while a learner driver was found speeding, with no experienced supervising driver and no L plates on the vehicle.
As well as road patrols, a booze bus was in operation at the weekend.
In addition to the speeding offences, State Highway Patrol officers recorded one drink-driving offence, nine drug-driving offences, one person driving while disqualified, two unlicensed drivers, 11 unregistered vehicles, eight seatbelt offences, 13 drivers using a mobile phone, 22 defective vehicles, and 27 other offences.
Operation Fahrenheit is an ongoing operation across the state, focused on country areas that have seen a high rate of road trauma.
Country drivers are at greater risk of dying on the road than those in metropolitan areas.
This year, 51 of the 90 fatalities in the state have occurred in rural and regional areas.
