Senior Constable Peter Bullock said a 47-year-old Geelong man was travelling from Geelong to Swan Hill along the Calder Alternate Highway when the incident occurred.
The trailer tipped onto its left-hand side at the roundabout on the intersection with the Bendigo-Maryborough Road.
Senior Constable Bullock said a piece of mining equipment worth half a million dollars was substantially damaged.
He asked for anyone who witnessed the rollover to contact the Bendigo Highway Patrol on 5448 1360.
UPDATE 12.55pm: VicRoads has reported that the inbound lanes at the Bendigo-Maryborough interchange are closed following a truck rollover.
EARLIER: Police and VicRoads are at the scene of a truck trailer rollover on the Calder Alternative Highway at Lockwood.
A trailer attached to a truck has rolled on the roundabout at the intersection of the highway and the Bendigo-Maryborough Road.
A Lockwood resident raised questions about the roundabout during its construction last year, voicing concerns it would not be suitable for heavy vehicles.
But VicRoads said the roundabout was designed to cater for large vehicles including B-doubles, A-doubles and over-dimensional vehicles.
The head of a local trucking company also said he thought it would be suitable if truck drivers slowed down enough.
More to come.
