Central Goldfields Shire chief administrator Noel Harvey met with a group of young people who supported the upgrades to the Maryborough Skate Park.
Mr Harvey said it was fantastic for young people to be involved in the planning and that they were passionate about their community.
“It’s important for young people to feel that they are part of the community, that they have a voice, and that council is interested in what they have to say,” Mr Harvey said.
Mr Harvey met with the group at the FReeZA Flash Night last Thursday, a free event for young people to socialise, enjoy food and live music.
“Often young people feel intimidated by how council operates and I want them to feel comfortable in approaching council and expressing their views,” Mr Harvey said.
“Together they have created a ground swell of interest in this project and it was a pleasure to meet with them in person to talk about why this community facility is so important to them.
“We’re thrilled to be able to invest $28,000 to get this project off the ground and to take the first steps towards a new facility for our youth community to enjoy for many years to come.”
Within the draft is also $180,664 over three years for the TAC supported Road Trip Project which supports young drivers.
Other items within the capital works program include the replacement of the Porteous Road Wareek Bridge, road resealing and a range of other projects.
