The Distinctive Areas and Landscapes Bill 2017 will also complement ongoing development of the Macedon Ranges Localised Planning Statement, which reflects the community’s vision for the area.
This will ensure development does not affect settlement boundaries and natural landscapes within the Macedon Ranges.
Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas welcomed the new announcement.
“The Macedon Ranges is one of Victoria’s most beautiful and environmentally sensitive areas, so it’s only fitting that this is the first place to receive protection from this new legislation.”
“This Bill means the amenity and landscapes of the Macedon Ranges will be preserved for generations to come.”
The state government created the Macedon Ranges Protection Authority committee in 2015 to work directly with the council to develop strategies of how to best protect the Macedon Ranges.
