An estimated 600,000 children from across Australia and New Zealand were present at 11am today as grown-ups read “Hickory Dickory Dash” by Tony Wilson and Laura Wood.
They read the book at 5000 locations including libraries, schools, kindergartens, childcare centres, bookshops and homes.
Among local locations were the Bendigo, Castlemaine, Gisborne, Kangaroo Flat, Kyneton and Woodend libraries.
The Boort, Elmore and Inglewood library agencies also took part.
National Simultaneous Storytime was an initiative of the Australian Library and Information Association. The project aimed to promote the value of reading and literacy among children.
Goldfields Libraries offered a range of fun and engaging children’s resources and programs which support early years literacy and learning.
Reading children for 10 minutes a day boosted their imagination, ability to cope with school, inter-personal relationships and confidence.
