The BFNL under-18s suffered a 52-point loss to Hampden under-18s on Saturday.
Bendigo struggled to hit the scoreboard against the well-drilled Hampden youngsters and went down 11.10 (76) to 3.6 (24).
“It was disappointing, our guys got a bit too far behind on occasions and they were probably a bit unfamiliar with the wider sort of ground as well,’’ BFNL under-18 coach Jason Stevens said.
“We positioned ourselves badly behind the footy and early we weren’t as hard at the footy as Hampden were, so that was disappointing from our perspective.
“There wasn't many positives in the way we played our footy. Certainly this group has got a lot more talent than the way they played today.
“Bit disappointed in the result, but together as a group hopefully they've each got an opportunity to play against a quality opposition and, hopefully, they get some benefit from it.”
“Jack Chester was our best on ground, he was really good and Riley Wilson around the footy was really good as well.
“After that it was a bit scarce, we did have some contributions but probably not enough from a lot of the guys.”
