Director Rob Jorritsma and a cast of 15 will bring the comedy As You Like It to life over the next three weekends at the Phee Broadway Theatre.
“We're all very excited. It’s been a great process and a marvellous journey with the whole group exploring play,” he said.
“(CTC doing) Shakespeare is an exciting and great thing to present to the town (for the first time).
“People can think it's a bit old fashioned but we have done a contemporary version, set in modern times. It is a story about love in all its variations.”
Jorritsma said the modern twist on As You Like It was topical for Castlemaine.
For me, the topical moment is have the two worlds,” he said.
“It opens in a dark place where are people not too kind and the characters leave that place, go to forest and all go through a journey of transformation.
“That idea of tree changing – leaving the rat race to go to the forest – is a topical thing for Castlemaine and for me.”
Castlemaine Theatre Company’s production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It is at the Phee Broadway Theatre on May 19, 25, and 26, June 1 and 2 from 7.30pm. It is also on May 20, 27 and June 3 at 2pm.
