1. What goes on behind the scenes of Bendigo Have Your Say?
Following online forums about their hometown is a daily habit for thousands of central Victorians.
Most of the postcodes in the region have Facebook pages or groups dedicated to the goings-on in their neighbourhood.
While posts that appear in these communities take mere moments to write, looking after these online spaces can be a full-time job for administrators, volunteers who open themselves up to public backlash and the law. Read more.
2. You can get fined for that? Test your knowledge on our local laws
Have you ever been fined for leaving the bins out for too long, or putting a ‘for sale’ sign in your car window?
Even sleeping in a tent in your mates garden for more than three weeks could land you a $500 fine.
3. Snoop through Bendigo’s Fortuna Villa
Take a virtual tour of the historic property with these pictures from 2013.
Then, see how the villa’s Roman bath was restored to its former glory.
Owners Paul and Lisa Banks unveiled the finished work on the bath, which lies next to the iconic mansion on Chum Street, about a year ago.
When the house and its grounds were held by the Defence Force, the bath was roofed and the pool covered, with the space converted into darkrooms, a cellar and bromide rooms.
But now the roof has been removed, the original window arches have been restored, and the bath itself is filled and ready to entice swimmers. Take a look for yourself here.
4. Educating the world on the joys of sex
Ever wondered how one becomes a sexologist – and what they actually do?
Meet Bendigo’s Linda Kirkman.
Dr Kirkman thinks talking about sex could help make the world a better place. Find out why and have your questions answered here.
5. How to deal with a potential mouse plague
For some people, seeing a mouse is no big deal.
For others, it’s akin to a nightmare come to life.
If you fall into the latter category, follow these tips to prevent and reduce mouse numbers in your home.
