Council has released a draft vision of the Arts and Creative Industries Strategy and is encouraging community members to complete a survey and voice their thought. City of Greater Bendigo strategic planner Stacey Poulter said a lot of community consultation was undertaken while preparing the draft vision.
“The last (arts) strategy was done in 2008, so it was important to get a feel of what's happening in community and find out what what they wanted,” she said.
The vision was developed following two Creative Conversations events that sought input and feedback from the community on the themes for the new strategy.
“The first Conversation launched the first stage and we got a really good response to that and a good representation across (Bendigo’s creative) industry,” Ms Poulter said.
“It gave us insight in to past and present conditions and set out (the vision’s) aspirations.
“The draft vision was heavily informed by what the community told us.”
Four themes raised through the Creative Conversations events included seeing council foster a culture of creativity, create activated spaces and inclusive networks, nurture and support talent and show the world the region’s creative strengths.
“We really tried to enact a lot of principles in that vision. It was a really open, transparent process. We really wanted our (community’s) creative people to shine,” Ms Poulter said.
Ms Poulter said the online survey is open until May 25. The rest of the arts and culture strategy will then be written before another call for community feedback.
It is hoped the new arts and culture strategy can be adopted by September.
