The council won the “Arts Animates: Excellence in building vibrant and resilient communities” category in the 2018 National Awards for Local Government.
It acknowledges the shire’s innovative approach to delivering a performing arts program in partnership with the community.
Mayor Brian Gibson said communities across the Shire have embraced arts and culture. He also recognised the work of the shire’s arts and culture officer Kirsty Orr.
“Partnering with our small communities particularly to host a range of theatre productions has been a fantastic way of facilitating partnerships within and between communities and has really added life to a lot of our smaller venues,” he said.
“Kirsty has worked closely with individuals and community groups to select theatre productions to show at local venues and to build confidence around hosting high quality events.
“Winning this award is also recognition for our communities that have so eagerly participated in the program.”
