Thwaites scored 55 goals from just 57 attempts and was named game MVP in the Magpies’ 70-50 win over the Adelaide Thunderbirds on Saturday.
The winless Thunderbirds played well in the first half to stay in touch, but the second half was a different story.
Led by goal shooter Thwaites and star goal keeper Sharni Layton, the Pies outscored Adelaide 18-8 in the third quarter to break the game open.
Thwaites scored 31 goals from 32 attempts in the second half as the Pies asserted their dominance.
Meanwhile, former Sandhurst netballer Chloe Watson and the Melbourne Vixens suffered their first defeat of the season when they went down to the Queensland Firebirds.
The Vixens led by three goals at quarter-time, but the Firebirds won the final three terms of the match and scored an impressive 59-55 win.
Watson played the first three quarters and part of the final term at wing defence before being rested in the dying stages of the game.
The Vixens travel to Adelaide next Sunday to face the Thunderbirds, while the Collingwood Magpies host the Sunshine Coast Lightning at Margaret Court Arena on Sunday.
