THE Rural Bank Bendigo Pioneers have finished with the wooden spoon in the TAC Cup Girls competition after their season ended with a 60-point loss to the Dandenong Stingrays on Saturday.

The Stingrays won 10.8 (68) to 1.2 (8) at RAMS Arena.
The Pioneers’ only goal was kicked by Mia Ward in the opening quarter.
Having started the season with a 37-point victory over the Western Jets, the Pioneers lost their last eight games, but coach Shawn McCormick says there are plenty of positives the young side can take out of their 2018 campaign.
“Although clearly short on victories we genuinely believe the vast majority of girls have enhanced their performance and we look forward to them going back to community-based football and continuing to develop,” McCormick said.
“We’ve been able to give a lot of girls opportunities this year… we had only four in the team today who were top-age, and out of the 32 who we’ve had this year, 27 of them can play again with us next year.”
