Baird suffered the injury in the dying moments of last Saturday’s 19-point defeat to Eaglehawk at Wade Street.
“I’ve been to see the physio and it’s looking like a six-week injury… just another one to add to the list,” Baird said on Wednesday.
“Unfortunately, not getting any younger it just seems to be the way it is these days with what’s happening to my body.
“Having played a fair bit of footy at higher levels starts to take its toll in the end.”
The latest setback for the 31-year-old who played five AFL games with the Brisbane Lions and Western Bulldogs comes after a serious hamstring injury ended his season in round 15 last year and is a significant blow to the Bulldogs’ forward half.
While the loss of Baird further soured Square’s defeat to the Hawks last week, the Bulldogs did have fellow key forward Dylan Johnstone after a delayed start play his first senior game of the season, kicking one goal.
As well as Baird missing, the Bulldogs will again be without assistant coach Brad Eaton (quad) and Brayden Dorrington (hamstring) for this Saturday’s match against South Bendigo.
Saturday’s round five games – Maryborough v Strathfieldsaye, Castlemaine v Kangaroo Flat, Kyneton v Eaglehawk, Sandhurst v Gisborne, Golden Square v South Bendigo.
