The Braves women defeated Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence (COE) 87-58 on Friday night and followed up with an equally impressive 89-63 win over Canberra Capitals Academy on Saturday.
The wins leave the Braves women as the lone undefeated team in the competition at 5-0, following Nunawading Spectres’ 55-60 loss to Dandenong Rangers.
The Spectres are in second place on the ladder at 5-1.
The weekend was highlighted by some outstanding individual performances.
Two-time WNBL All-Star Gabe Richards scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds in the 29-point win against the COE.
She followed up with 12 points and four rebounds against the Canberra Capitals Academy.
Kelly Wilson led all players against the COE with nine assists and dished out another 12 against Canberra on top of 12 points.
Nadeen Payne had another productive weekend with 15 points and four rebounds against the COE and a game-high 23 points and six rebounds against the Academy.
Ashleigh Karaitiana averaged 14 points and four rebounds across the two games, while guard Bianca Dufelmeier finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a strong performance against the Academy.
Next up for the Braves women is an away clash against Melbourne Tigers at Oakleigh Recreation Centre this Saturday.
