The incident caused a signal fault.
“The fault was reported about 7.05am and V/Line immediately deployed signal technicians to the site,” a V/Line spokesperson said.
“The fault was rectified at 9am.”
V/Line reported the longest delay as 45 minutes, which occurred on the 6.16am train from Southern Cross to Bendigo.
The 7.45am Bendigo to Southern Cross service was late by 42 minutes.
“V/Line apologises for the disruption and thanks passengers for their patience while the fault was rectified.”
EARLIER: Trains on the Bendigo line have been delayed up to 45 minutes on Friday morning following a signalling fault.
The 6.16am Southern Cross to Bendigo service was delayed 45 minutes after the fault occurred between Castlemaine and Elphinstone shortly after 7am.
The 6.22am train from Eaglehawk to Southern Cross was delayed 27 minutes.
Meanwhile, travellers on both the 7am Epsom to Southern Cross train and the 7.45am Bendigo to Southern Cross train have experienced delays of 20 minutes.
The fault was fixed about 9am, but residual delays are expected to continue throughout the morning.
But the delays are expected to resolve before the afternoon peak.
Monthly punctuality figures released earlier this month revealed trains on the Bendigo line had failed to meet ‘on time’ targets for almost three years.
